Persephone’s Return perfume is devoted to my Mum and to all mothers in the world. It is my anthem to unconditional love and devotion between mother and daughter which overcome all barriers and lasts years and years.
I recall that time in my life when I was a child and we were walking together with my Mum and spring were surrounding us. We were walking in the rural area where we lived at that time. Air was full of all the spring aromas such as new trees buds, flowers and soaked soil warmed by bright spring sun light. We were joking and laughing, inhaled the fragrant air and gathered flowers. The perfume makes me to reminisce that time and feel the innocent relaxed happiness and love to my Mum.
The name “Persephone’s Return” refers to the myth about Demeter and Persephone, mother and daughter, which loved each other. Their separation causes winter with cold and desolation. Their reunion brings spring to the earth with warmth and blooming.
In Greek mythology, Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter, and is the vegetation goddess and the queen of the underworld. The myth of her abduction by Hades, which is an origin story to explain the seasons, represents her function as the personification of vegetation, which shoots forth in spring and withdraws into the earth after harvest; hence, she is also associated with spring as well as the fertility of vegetation.
Persephone was gathering flowers in a field when Hades came to abduct her. Demeter, when she found her daughter had disappeared, searched for her all over the earth. She neglected the earth and in the depth of her despair she caused nothing to grow. Finally, Zeus, pressed by the cries of the hungry people and by the other deities who also heard their anguish, forced Hades to return Persephone. Hades indeed complied with the request, but he tricked Persephone, giving her some pomegranate seeds to eat. Persephone was released, but because she had tasted food in the underworld, she was obliged to spend a third of each year (the winter months) there, and the remaining part of the year with the gods above. Persephone returned and she was reunited with her mother. When Persephone goes to the underworld for some months each year, the earth became a barren realm. When Demeter and her daughter are reunited once again each year, the Earth flourished with vegetation and colour.
The perfume exudes literally early spring air bouquet. It brings a feeling of the beginning of life and vegetation season. It is never ending rainbow of tender delicate airy spring flowers of mimosa and hyacinth, completed with exceptional unforgettable poplar buds and green galbanum notes. Styrax gives depth warmth and complexity to the composition. Overall, the uplifting inspiring perfume bestows an emotion of pure happiness, exaltation, purity and innocence.
